The Role

The Category Manager (Flights) will drive flights product category sales on, and websites, through market-leading product/content optimisation, promotions and pricing in all marketing channels. Focusing on airline and destination-level performance, content and pricing analysis, merchandising effectiveness and improving user experience and product offering on our websites, with full responsibility for hitting financial targets for the category. To effectively manage a team of executives.

Key Responsibilities will include
  • Drive standalone flight sales on, and websites, through onsite merchandising, SEO, affiliates, CRM and digital acquisition channels. Working closely with marketing team to co-ordinate efforts and set goals and targets for efficiency and strategy for flights business area
  • Work closely with Dynamic packaging trading managers on flight content and pricing strategy for the flight part of the dynamic packaging business
  • Responsible for CAT35/nego fare content distribution, and making sure we have access to all relevant market fares for both flight only and dynamic packaging business area
  • Work closely with air supply team to manage airline performance and agree focus and strategy on airlines where we have commercial and override agreements to achieve
  • Own and drive the sales calendar for promotional activities, providing visibility to wider teams and key stake holders and agree necessary support for all the planned activities
  • Monitor and analyse content and pricing and make adjustments where needed, to remain competitive in the market and focus on achieving our financial goals
  • In-depth analysis of performance by airline/destination etc. to make best decisions on strategy we need to apply/follow to drive category performance and make informed decisions on product gaps and opportunities for growth
  • Involvement in product and booking path development and testing. Playing pivotal role in understanding the customer behavior and prioritising business needs
  • Monitor competitor activities and highlight any content and pricing gaps/opportunities
  • Collate, analyse and interpret financial, sales and market information, and provide meaningful commentary and recommendations for senior leadership team
  • Focus on improving cross-sell in flights and maximizing ancillary revenue opportunities in the sale of flights
  • GDS content management (Sabre and Amadeus) - making sure we utilise best content opportunities between the two GDSs
  • Motivating, developing and leading a team of trading executives, setting clear objectives and targets for the team
  • Act as a key contact for customer service and operations teams for flights related queries and customer feedback, to allow us to improve our processes and customer focus

Skills and Experience - specialist technical knowledge
  • CAT35/GDS nego fare content experience
  • Proven previous experience in flights trading in an OTA/travel agency environment
  • Previous yield & pricing experience in an OTA/travel agency environment
  • Wide industry knowledge and understanding of the airline/OTA business
  • Familiarity with CAT35 fares and GDS nego fares in GDS
  • GDS knowledge, ideally Sabre and Amadeus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office suite
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail, proactive team player
  • Previous people management skills
